On Thursday 22nd January, Bassam Mahfouz, London Assembly Member for Ealing and Hillingdon, visited Northolt Station to see first-hand the progress being made on its long-awaited Step Free Access improvements.

The visit came eight years after the scheme first received approval, marking its significance.

Originally approved in January 2018, the project includes the construction of a fully accessible lift linking street level to the platforms.

Work began in early 2020 but was halted by the COVID-19 pandemic and after a four-year pause, construction resumed in March 2025 and is set to be completed this summer.

Once finished, the new lift will significantly improve accessibility for disabled passengers, older residents, parents with buggies, and anyone who struggles with stairs, making Northolt Station fully step-free for the first time.

The project forms part of a wider commitment from the Mayor of London to make 50% of stations step free by 2030.

Bassam was joined by Cllr Paul Driscoll, Ealing council’s Cabinet Member for Climate Action and representatives from TfL to view the site’s progress.

Bassam Mahfouz AM, London Assembly Member for Ealing and Hillingdon, said:

“I know just how important step-free access is, and after years of championing it for Northolt, Greenford and elsewhere, I am delighted that we are on course to deliver it here this summer. After an almost decade-long wait, Northolt commuters will finally see the lift they, and I, have long called for.

Accessibility is not a luxury; it is a right. With almost four million journeys passing through the station every year, it is only right that Northolt Station becomes fully accessible for everyone who relies on it.”
